A routine drive through one of Sydney’s busiest intersections turned into a dramatic crash scene on Monday when a Coca-Cola delivery truck collided with an SUV, causing the truck’s cab to separate from the vehicle entirely.
The collision happened around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of King Street and Botany Road in Mascot.
Dashcam footage captured the moments leading up to the crash. The truck was travelling through the intersection with a green light when a white SUV moved into the roadway while attempting a right turn. Seconds later, the vehicles collided with significant force.
The impact was powerful enough to tear the front cab from the truck’s chassis, leaving stunned motorists watching as the detached cab continued sliding along the road with the driver still inside.
Witnesses could be heard reacting in shock as the truck skidded through the intersection. Another heavy vehicle travelling nearby was forced to brake suddenly to avoid becoming involved in the aftermath of the crash.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the collision. NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed the 29-year-old truck driver before transporting him to hospital with minor injuries as a precaution.
Despite the severity of the crash and the extensive damage to both vehicles, police confirmed that the occupants of the SUV were not injured.
Images from the scene showed significant front-end damage to the SUV, while the Coca-Cola truck sustained major structural damage after losing its cab.
Police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. At this stage, no charges have been announced, and authorities are continuing to review the incident.
The dramatic footage has since attracted widespread attention online, with many viewers expressing surprise that the truck driver escaped with only minor injuries given the scale of the impact.
